Val d'Isere is ski resort in Savoie department in France and it is situated just 5 km away from Italy. This is very old village that dates back to before Roman times, but skiing here started in the 1930s. As in all places that were dominated by Savoyards, even in Val d'Isere you can see their architectural influence. Houses of different structures create perfect harmony of colors.
Very famous is Espace Killy. It is a ski area named after the skier Jean-Claude Killy, which has 300 km of pistes. It is known as Most Beautiful Ski Area in the World. Val d'Isere also offers awesome off-piste ski area. It can be amazing experience but also very dangerous.
Val d'Isere hosted Alpine World Ski Championships at 2009. Every year Val d'Isere is venue of World Cup competitions.
Ski resort has also ice skating rink and snow park. Val d'Isere mostly attracts young people. It is very lively and it has many pubs, bars and nightclubs. There are lots of bars with live music where you can enjoy your apres ski drink.
Near Val d'Isere is situated beautiful tourist attraction: Vanoise National Park. It is full of green valleys and beautiful landscape is perfect for relaxing or hiking. There is also Sport Park which includes tennis and golf courts, swimming pool and much more. It is perfect for summer days.
In a place as famous for its skiing as Val d'Isere, there are many ski rental, boutiques and souvenir stores. You can also find here a perfumery, chocolate shop and jeweler.
As place itself, restaurants here stand out for their interesting architectural uniqueness. Food quality is also very good. You can find all sorts of traditional dishes and enjoy quite and intimate atmosphere.
It is very easy to explore the village by foot, but if you are situated out of the centre, there is free public transportation that runs every day.
Main type of transportation is bus shuttle that runs between villages every 5 minutes.
The closest airport is one in Geneva, about 150 km away. If you go by car you will need 3 hours to reach ski resort. There are also aero ski buses, minibuses and taxis that operate in that direction.
