Roquetas de Mar is situated 160 kilometers east of Málaga. Until 1990s Roquetas de Mar was only a fishing settlement; but today thanks to the urban development Roquetas de Mar is an important holiday resort with many holiday apartments, hotels and tourist facilities. Roquetas de Mar is a typical place for Spanish coast, with its small port, and little white houses. It is relatively quiet. Roquetas de Mar attracts mostly families. Tourists come from all over the world to visit this beautiful resort, but most of them are from Germany or Great Britain.
This resort is sheltered by the mountains of the Sierra de Gador, and thanks to this sheltered position this is one of the driest places in Europe because rainfall is very scarce. Since it is very warm, the best time to visit the resort is between May and October.
