Lucerne is a beautiful small city in the Switzerland, across the lake from Altdorf. Lucerne is a nice place to visit and a great base from which you can explore Switzerland. Lucerne has a distinguished history, and today is a lovely small city
with a thriving tourism industry. It is very simple to get to Lucerne thanks to its central location. There is a train from nearly every other city in Switzerland. Therea are hourly trains from Olten and Zurich Airport, half-hourly trains from Zurich
and direct train every other hour from Berne. Lucerne sits at the end of the busiest waterways in Switzerland so ferry is also an option to get to it. Lucerne can be a complete joy to get around on foot. The old town is tiny and most other interesting sites
are within 20 minutes walking. There is also a city bus system. The Lido beach and the Swiss Transport Museum are a bit further out and can be reached by bus or by one of several boats from just in front of the central railway station.
You can use Swiss federal Railway or any of private rail or boat companies to discover the rest of Central Switzerland. In Lucerne you can find a few places to stay in. Acommodation is in all price ranges. The backpakers can find acommodation next to
Lion Monument. Another place that offers acommodation is near the old own, with a lot of clubs around. You can also take a private room. There are also hotels, and prices start at 128 CHF for single room per night. Shopping in Lucerne can also be good, you'll find several good departments
with acceptable prices.
Hot spots: You must visit The chapel bridge, it's said to be the oldest woodbridge in Europe, while you're walking over it yoou can see 100 pictures of 12th century city life and Swiss history. The Swiss Transport Museum is also very popular among tourists, as well as
The Picasso Museum, and the KKL- the spectacular building that contains several concert halls.
What to do: you can explore the Old Town, take a boat tour, ascend Mount Pilatus or visit sopme of the interesting night bars (Jazzkantine, Sedel..).
