Venice Marco Polo Airport is an airport located on the Italian mainland, 8 km north of Venice. The airport was named after the Venetian traveller Marco Polo, who is considered the European rediscoverer of China. It is the third largest Italian airport in terms of air traffic. A modern terminal, opened in 2002 but already close to its full capacity, hosts al scheduled and charter flights, including some long-haul connections. The airport is connected to the nearby railway station of Venice-Mestre and to the bus terminal of Venice-Piazzale Roma by scheduled bus services, and to Piazza San Marco by water taxi. The airport terminal has three floors, the ground floor for arrivals and the first floor for departures. The departure area has 60 check-in desks and two lounges airside for customers. The two departure lounges are the "Tinoretto Lounge" for SkyTeam customers and the "Marco Polo Room" or customers of all other companies. The third floor of the terminal has offices for the operating company and airlines. From the Venice airport, the buses will take you to the two Venice railway stations. A free shuttle runs between the terminal, the docks and various car parks. The airport is 15 minutes from the Venice-Mestre motorway exit and is located off the SS14 airport road towards Trieste, which is well signposted for the airport. There are long-term garage and open-air car parks by the old terminal. In addition there are two other large open-air long-term car parks at the airport.
